Dr. Muhammad Awais is a postdoctoral research associate at the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation, University of Prince Edward Island. Dr. Awais was trained as an agricultural engineer with extensive experience in smart agriculture, agricultural mechanization, precision agriculture, and high-throughput phenotyping. His research is mainly focused on developing methodologies to efficiently utilize UAV-based remote sensing imagery at a field scale. He has gained valuable hands-on experience by actively engaging in working with agricultural drones and intelligent irrigation systems, facilitating the collection of crucial field data on soil, crops, and water resources using a combination of manual and automated tools. He participated in most research projects with multidisciplinary, with close collaboration with experts in engineering, plant science (breeding, plant physiology, climate change, water stress), Agronomy and other crop-related professionals.

CLISA is the first multi-institutional training program in Canada towards climate smart agriculture to help address the need for HQPs who possess appropriate knowledge and expertise in climate change, precision agriculture, water and soil management, sustainable food production and food value chains, and climate-smart financing and policies to promote the development and application of innovative technologies and strategies in Canadian farming practices.
